Florida Trust Investments: should we thank the government shutdown for buying opportunities?

Uncategorized Oct 12, 2013

Do you invest assets for a Florida trust?  Are you administering a Florida estate? Are you a Florida trustee or a Florida personal representative or executor?   If so, have you enjoyed the buying opportunities which this stock market has afforded you and your Florida trust beneficiaries?  In January, the market pushed higher, right out of the box and well off November, 2012 lows.  Since the new year, we have seen new highs and a market that, when you look at 2013 on a multi year graph, is represented by a 60 degree angle—up !  While we all know that trustees of Florida trusts should be long term investors, who have a plan or a strategy for both the production of income and the growth of capital,  the truth is that recent market sell-offs and dips may have created unique buying opportunities for Florida trustees.  Many know that you make your money on the “buy” and not the sell.  There have been a number of dips since January which have rewarded those Florida trustees who had the courage to purchase equities to add to their long term trust portfolio during those sell-offs. Most recently, the DJIA has surged past 15,000 and the market was up strong this past Thursday and Friday, after quick losses from the government shutdown and fear that the US might default on its debt.  Did your trustee buy?   Advocate hard.  Litigate smart.
