The Daily Mail and the New York Post report that Carrie Fisher, at the time of her death, had a three film-contract with Disney. Fisher was best known for her role in the original Star Wars as Princess Leia and had recently been contracted by Disney to complete more Star Wars episodes. Although one movie was completed, she had not fulfilled her contract with Disney in its’ entirety before she died.  Although it may seem strange, Disney had taken out a $50 million insurance policy to cover them if Fisher was unable to appear in any of the films she contracted to complete. Now, due to her unexpected death, it seem that Lloyds of London will have to pay Disney this substantial amount of money. Why would Disney have taken out such a large policy when Fisher wasn’t sick or expected to pass away? The media reports that it may have been due to Fisher’s past substance abuse. She also struggled with bi-polar disorder. Regardless, Disney will now seek to recover millions as a result of her death. Will Disney receive more money from an insurance claim than Fisher’s family will receive from her estate? Will this claim be the “biggest ever personal insurance claim” like the media says?
