post about Golf Legend,Arnold Palmer, Died WITH a Will: Who Inherits?

On September 25, 2016, Arnold Palmer passed away. At the time of his death, many probate attorneys and estate planning lawyers  probably found themselves wondering whether or not he had a proper estate plan in place. According to a May 31, 2017 Golf Week article, he earned $875 million during his life as both a successful business man and golfer. In fact, he apparently made $42 million in 2015 alone. The article reveals that he DID have a will. Is this surprising? Who will inherit from his massive estate?

An April 27,2016 Forbes article states that ,”according to a 2015 Rocket Lawyer survey, 64% of Americans don’t have a will.” Estate planning lawyers in West Palm Beach could probably guess that more elderly people have wills than younger people. The article confirms this. Arnold Palmer passed away at 87 years old. therefore, trust lawyers and estate attorneys knew that he probably had a will.

The Golf Week article not only reveals that Palmer had a will, but also who will inherit under his will. Palmer’s wife will receive $10 million. In addition, Palmer’s charity foundation, “Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation,” filed a claim to his estate for nearly $10 million so that they can continue operating as usual. But what will happen to the bulk of his estate? His will leaves the majority of everything, including multiple houses and golf courses, to his two daughters. Will an estate battle emerge? Will his widow fight his daughters for more of a “fair share” of the estate? Who are his probate lawyers? Will the charity continue to get funded by his estate forever?
