Judge Appointed to Investigate Inheritance
- According to publshed reports
- “Retired Judge Stephen Roberts was selected by the city’s Police Commission on Thursday to lead an investigation into a police officer’s disputed $2.7 million inheritance.
- The investigation involves a 2012 will and trust for the late Geraldine Webber, who left police Sgt. Aaron Goodwin
- the majority of her estate including
- her riverfront home,
- stocks,
- bonds and a Cadillac.
- Multiple parties allege in the county probate court that Goodwin exerted undue influence over Webber, while she was impaired by dementia, to inherit her vast estate.”
Undue Influence Investigation Outside of Probate
- Mind you, this is a private investigation by the police department evidently.
- This investigation is separate and apart from the probate lawsuit over the estate
- I suppose the investigation will make findings about whether the officer exerted undue influence over the 90 year old millionaire
- It is not certain whether the findings will be made public or not
- This is not typical for Palm Beach probate litigation
- If you were a cop in, say, Boca Raton, I don’t know if the police would investigate
- You would have your undue influence trial and the Palm Beach probate court judge would make a ruling
- Mind you, undue influence is a serious accusation and I don’t know how that will or may affect a policeman’s job
- Dementia is an affliction which can make a person more susceptible to advances or force or duress from others
- As dementia increases or grows, if it remains un-checked or un-treated, the person can get progressively worse
